I want to take a leave of absence (freezing semester), what steps should I follow?

Leave of absence application can be made through KUSIS. Pricing rules for leave of absence are available on the following website:

Rules Regarding Tuition and Other Fees – Academic Planning and Development Directorate (ku.edu.tr)

When should I pay my fee if I take a leave of absence (freeze my semester)?

Payment must be made after the Board Decision is issued.

Will my scholarship be cut if I take a leave of absence (freeze my semester)?

  • When taking Leave of Absence (LoA) for one semester, students are required to pay 20% of semester tuition. This fee has been determined as the required fee for Koç University students to keep their student rights (such as the right to use the library and other facilities -except for the dormitories- and to get student certificates). Students on LoA may continue to benefit from their student rights.
  • New-entry students (1st-Year ELC students or Freshman Undergraduate students) are required to pay the full amount of the semester tuition (regardless of any scholarships or waivers they may have) if they take an LoA in either one of their first two semesters. Student exchange programs approved by YÖK (Higher Education Council of Türkiye) are exempted from this rule. Students participating in those programs are required to pay the regular LoA fee (20% of semester tuition).
  • Students who have not paid their tuition by the deadline did not enroll in any course without permission of the relevant Koç University Council lose their rights as Koç University student for the respective semester. The student ID cards of these students will be canceled and their campus access will be restricted. They are not allowed to use Koç University dormitories for the respective semester. Students who benefit from additional scholarships and waivers at the discretion of Koç University (such as monthly stipends or dormitory fee waivers) will lose these rights for the respective semester. The respective semester will be taken into account in the calculation of the scholarship duration and in the maximum study duration of these students. These rules do not apply to students who will take amnesty exams towards graduation. Students who did not enroll in any course in a Fall or Spring semester and then enroll for courses in a later semester are required to pay 20% of the respective semester fee for all the semesters when they did not enroll (same tuition rule applies to students who take Leave of Absence with the permission of the relevant Koç University Council).
  • Students (except for new-entry students-1st Year ELC students or Freshman Undergraduate students-) may be reimbursed 50% of the semester tuition they had previously paid (with the condition that the final payment will not be less than 20% of semester tuition) if they take an LoA within the first seven weeks of an academic semester. For LoA requests after the first seven weeks, there are no reimbursements.

Will I be charged when I do not enroll for a semester?

For the periods in which the student does not enroll, the student is considered inactive and a registration freeze fee is charged as mentioned in the previous question’s answer.

Detailed information about the leave of absence (registration freezing) can be found in the link bellow:
